We have baby on the brain at my house.  I am just over 5 weeks away from having one of those little warm loaf-of-bread bundles.

And this one is a boy.  Following two sisters, he will have plenty of people bossing him around.

My girls are excited to have a brother, though a little apprehensive.  A couple weeks ago I had this conversation in the car with my older daughter:

A: Tell me about having a brother, mom…’cause, you have 2, you know all about it.

Me:  Well, at first he won’t do much (launches into discussion about how newborns don’t do much more than eat, sleep, cry, and fill diapers)

A (interrupting):  Well, the thing I’m most worried about is Bionicles.  I’m just not that fond…

This was followed by an explanation that babies don’t use legos of any type, let alone Bionicles.

I have a feeling we are in for a fun ride with number 3!

Here are a few shots of a little baby…she was born at the end of August and was just so sweet for her session:

You will probably recognize this cutie from my post on baby week…I’d been looking forward to meeting her and she is a cutie.  She was a little tired, but we managed to get a few smiles out of her.

I’ve been taking a class about Babies, Toddlers and Kids…specifically, how to draw their attention to the lens of the camera, keep them engaged and get natural smiles and expressions.  It’s just a two week class, so the homework has been pretty intensive.  Last week was all about babies, so I lined up shoots with 3 different babies and tried the techniques discussed in the class.  These are my homework submissions for last week.

This week is all about kids…I had a big shoot today with a bunch of kidlets.  It was crazy fun.  I’ll get those photos up next week.

Baby G came to visit me at exactly 10 days old…one of my favorite ages to do newborn photos!  She had had some jaundice adventures and was still a little yellow, but just as cute and sweet as could be.  She kept making this perfect little “o” shape with her mouth.

Happy 2011, everyone!  Wow, it has been a busy month and a half since my last post.  I will try not to go that long between posts again.  So here is a quick catch up.  First off, thanks to everyone who gave me a chance to work with them in 2010!  What an amazing year it was for me.  I feel like I have really grown as a photographer and I look forward to growing and learning even more!  So, thanks for all the encouragement.  Here’s to a fabulous 2011!

And what is a photo blog without photos?  Here is a handful of photos that I have edited since my last post…

This shoot was a little nerve-wracking for me before it started.  k and c were coming at 2.  At noon a huge thunderstorm rolled through.  The sky was dark outside and it was really windy.  I knew I wouldn’t have enough light if it kept up and I really wanted to avoid using flash.  So I spent an hour brainstorming, setting up, trying things out and preparing for a dark rainy afternoon with no sunshine to work with.  At 1:45 the sky cleared and the day turned out to be perfect.  Whew.  I have to give the credit to my older daughter…she was praying for the storm to pass by before the photoshoot (I’m sure it also had something to do with her dislike of thunderstorms).

This was a newborn + sibling session for c (the newborn…okay he was 2 months old) and his sister k.  c wasn’t too happy about having his photo taken to begin with, but as he got used to the situation he relaxed a bit and I was able to capture some more expressive shots.  k is just a lot of fun…she seems very mellow, but she has a definite twinkle in her eye!  So fun!

I have to admit I have been looking forward to posting this preview.  This little girl was so perfect during her shoot.  Very little fussing, sometimes asleep and sometimes awake, she was a perfect angel!  Her parents are some of my very favorite people, too, and I am so very thrilled for them to be parents!  Congratulations, guys!
