There are some people who don’t care for “Hallmark Holidays”…Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day…but I am not one of those people.  I’m not saying I go all out by any means, but any excuse to make others feel special?  I am there.  Over at The Pioneer Woman’s Photography section this weekend there was a contest.  The theme was “Fathers”.  I immediately knew which photo I wanted to submit.  So many people enter these contests that I never ever get my hopes up.  There are some crazy awesome photographers out there…I don’t know how she ever chooses the finalists, let alone the winners.  Anyway, I submitted the photo below.  It’s one that has been drifting around my computer and my head for a month and a half (since Easter, when it was taken).  It’s not of my own father or of my husband, but it is a photo I love of another family member and his sweet little daughter.  And while I knew that it was highly unlikely for it to be chosen as a finalist (it wasn’t, by the way), it was motivation enough to find the photo in the depths of my server, edit it, and send it to the people who would enjoy it the most: the daddy in the photo and his cute wife.  Some of my favorite people.  I hope you like it, too.

Spring and the beginning of summer bring so many changes…new plants peeking through the ground, beautiful flowers blooming, and a new crop of high school graduates, ready for their post-high-school-life to start!  I met with Miss M back in February to do a photo session in the middle of a bleak and very long winter.  A few weeks ago she decided she wanted some spring portraits as well, so we got together to take some photos of her in the spring weather.  The clouds were threatening a downpour at any minute throughout the shoot, but we managed to finish up just as the first drops began to fall.  She wanted some photos in her cap and gown, so we headed over to the high school (which is my alma mater as well as hers) to get some parting evidence of her life there.  Ahhh, the memories!  She’s ready to move on though.  And I know she will succeed in anything she puts her mind to!

As a side note, I tried a little bit of a different editing technique with these and pulled back on the colors quite a bit.  A definite departure from what I have usually done, but I like the result!  I hope you all do, too.

I’m still working my way through the photos I took for baby week and kids week during my photography class last month.  I finished up little a’s photos and just had to share them.  She is such a cutie!  She is 9 months old now…much bigger than she was when I last had a session with her (you can see her as a newborn here!)  She was so fun…she showed me her dance moves, her doggy, and how much she loves her mommy.  A is really a doll, and we had so much fun.  Here is the proof:

It was a cold winter day when I met Miss M and her fabulous mom at a nearby college campus to shoot some senior portraits.  Miss M is one of those seniors who is ready for college.  She’s smart, mature and good natured.  She’s also a lot of fun!  We had such a great time hiking around the campus…luckily it was pretty quiet.  Here are a few of the resulting shots:

I tried a new action on a couple of the color shots…it worked with some, but not with others.  Overall, I think I prefer my old method, but am not ruling the new one out, either!

One of the great things about photography for me is that is forces me out of my comfort zone and I am able to meet and interact with new people.  L & J were a referral from one of my other clients.  They’ve been married just over a year and want something other than wedding photos on their walls at home.  It was such a pleasure to meet them and have some fun shooting photos.  Plus they have one of the cutest dogs I have ever met.  Enjoy the preview!
